It has been a long time since I last shared any coffee accessories. This time, I would like to introduce the “Kruve coffee aroma glasses & pour-over carafe”. I do not think many people in Hong Kong are using this set yet. The reason I originally bought it was simple: it looked beautiful. The improvement it later brought to my coffee experience went far beyond what I had expected. I genuinely expected nothing more than a very beautiful glass. I treated all the talk about aroma as purely a marketing term, but I later discovered that I was wrong. I will explain why shortly.

Why did I choose to buy Kruve coffee glasses?
I have always found glass coffee products difficult to resist. Apart from enjoying collecting a set, if the glass is beautifully made and transparent, and the design looks good, I will usually buy it directly regardless of the brand. I am sure that most of us have seen many glass coffee cups. Fellow, Timemore, Kalita and Hario all offer plenty of choices in the coffee market. However, despite their extensive product ranges, most of their products centre on carafes, drippers or Espresso cups. When it comes to a glass with a capacity of 150 mL or more that makes me want to buy it the moment I see it, while avoiding an overly generic appearance, I think there are genuinely relatively few choices among the coffee accessories on the market.

When I carried out my research using the criteria above, I estimated that the genuinely beautiful choices could be counted on fewer than 10 fingers. When I discovered this brand, my eyes lit up. Its double-walled glass construction added to the appeal, so I bought it immediately.
I originally planned to see whether anyone online had shared product knowledge or reviews, but I only found information on the official website and a few online shops, and even that content was very limited. It would be untrue to say that I was not worried about the brewing quality when I bought it.

The experience and principles behind the Kruve EQ coffee aroma glasses and pour-over carafe: can they genuinely enhance the entire experience of tasting pour-over coffee?
After buying the set, my feelings were decidedly mixed. If I had to express the entire experience in one sentence, it would be: “Tasting from the aroma glasses is a good experience, but using the pour-over carafe is a bad one.” It is an experience that falls just short of perfection.
Let us begin with the aroma glasses. Their design follows a concept similar to a wine glass, mainly using the diameter and height of the rim to concentrate the coffee's aroma molecules. When you drink, the taller rim easily encloses your nose, so the air you inhale comes directly from the coffee inside the aroma glass. For a coffee enthusiast, this is a major improvement to the overall experience. Could a wine glass achieve the same effect? I firmly believe that it could, although a rim this tall and narrow might require something like a champagne glass. Even so, drinking coffee while holding a wine glass feels a little strange to me, and this set solves that problem as well.

The other glass has a slightly wider rim, but the concept is the same. Personally, I prefer the taller, narrower version. If I were forced to express how much it improves the drinking experience as a number, I would say that the difference is at least 10%–20%. Part of tasting depends on aromas being conveyed to the brain, so concentrating more aroma genuinely affects the quality of the coffee-drinking experience.
Could an ordinary coffee cup provide this experience? I think it would be more difficult because of the limitations imposed by the diameter and height of the rim. The pour-over carafe follows the same principle, so I will not explain it further.

Beyond tasting coffee, it offers an unexpected pour-over experience by producing a pleasing sound
Another slightly unusual subject I would like to share is acoustics. I do not know whether you usually notice sound when brewing coffee, but if you do, I must say that the sound produced by this set is exceptionally pleasing. Because it is made of tall, double-walled glass, when the water strikes the bottom of the pour-over carafe or glass, the reflected sound feels transparent and crisp, yet substantial.

To turn it into a real-world image, imagine entering a vast cave. Inside the cave is a waterfall, with water striking the lake below. The clear sound of that flowing water is what this set reflects back to you, adding to the sensory experience of the coffee. When no one else is at home, try switching off every sound in the house and you will understand what I mean.
It may sound exaggerated, but that is genuinely how it is, and this deserves praise.

The appearance of the Kurve coffee aroma set offers a strikingly fresh design
The appearance and colour in the photographs are actually very close to how the set looks in person. For anyone who values appearance, it is finished to an exceptionally high standard. With its double-walled design, when the inner glass is filled with coffee and there is a little more light at home, the refracted light gives the coffee a faint glow. Both the pour-over carafe and aroma glasses produce the same effect, which I particularly like.
The double-walled glass design also means that it does not feel excessively hot when you hold it, so you can confidently fill it with something very hot. It is both attractive and practical—high praise for the aroma glasses!
Finally, among the many glass products I have seen, this is one of the more transparent examples. It also has a faint green tint that becomes more apparent when it refracts light, rather than being completely colourless. Visually, I think this adds to its appearance and prevents the glass from feeling inexpensive.
One shortcoming: the Kurve coffee pour-over carafe is only partly successful
I genuinely think the coffee aroma glasses are excellent and worth buying if you have the opportunity. The pour-over carafe can also be bought, but it is not essential. Beyond the advantages above, there is one thing I value greatly in a carafe: whether the liquid will spill while it is being poured into the cup and leave the entire table covered in coffee. When I began using it, I spilled the coffee every single time—100%. Only after further investigation did I discover that pouring from it requires a particular technique, which I genuinely had not expected.

The Kruve coffee pour-over carafe has a design that allows coffee to spill easily
The pouring edge is relatively thick, and the body of the carafe is also quite large. When coffee is being poured from it, it is difficult to see how the liquid is leaving the pouring edge. If you are not careful and the pouring edge is not aligned with the body of the cup—at a right angle of 90 degrees to the floor—you will run into trouble.

I have not encountered this with any other coffee carafe so far. It may, of course, be my own fault, but I do not find it particularly convenient. Even now, after using it 10 times, I have had to wipe the body of the carafe on 5 occasions.
There are also always one or two drops that run out. This part is genuinely a little disappointing, although the rest of the experience is fine.

A brief aside – concerns before unboxing the Kruve coffee aroma set
Here is a brief aside. Whenever I buy most glass coffee equipment or products, I always check the item for problems first. A Fellow glass product I bought once broke during transport in Hong Kong and resolving the matter took a great deal of effort. I am therefore more cautious with glass coffee products and, whenever possible, buy stock that is already available in Hong Kong.
If you want to buy the Kruve aroma glasses, it is best not to purchase them from an online shop. The glass is relatively thin, so collecting them in person is preferable. There is a risk that the parcel may be handled roughly during delivery. Alternatively, you can pay a little more for shipping when placing the order and ask the online retailer to pack everything securely before dispatch, which offers greater protection for the product's condition.

Kurve EQ coffee aroma set: conclusion
That concludes what I wanted to share. Personally, I recommend considering the glasses if you are looking to buy a set. As for the pour-over carafe, if the spilling issue described above does not seem too troublesome, I think it can also be worth buying. Just take extra care when using it to serve friends.
One final point I almost forgot: because the inside of the pour-over carafe is relatively tall, you need a long cleaning tool or a water jet to reach inside it. Otherwise, cleaning can be difficult. For that reason, I do not use it very often myself. That is all—the end!
