If you have no particular plans this week, I strongly recommend visiting the Coffee Agenda 2024 coffee exhibition at PMQ in Central. For coffee lovers, this is an opportunity not to be missed, for the following reasons:

First, Hong Kong has rarely hosted a coffee exhibition of this scale. This event brings together brands from around the world and features many championship and competition coffees. These beans are not only expensive in the everyday market, but often very difficult to find. At the exhibition, you can also taste championship-level pour-over coffee—a genuinely rare experience.

Another major highlight is the opportunity to drink high-quality coffees from around the world in one place. For anyone who enjoys exploring different flavour profiles, it is an excellent occasion.

My strongest impression of this year's exhibition

What struck me most this year was the clear increase in rare coffees. Compared with the previous two years, many more booths brought rare auction lots, with well over half appearing to display them. The age range of visitors was also broader than before, and more travellers seemed to be attending.

The exhibition has also received many recommendations on social media. If you are interested, tomorrow may be the best day to visit because the weekend crowd is expected to be very large. When I entered at around three this afternoon, it already felt more crowded than last year, so I suggest arriving early.

What makes this year different

The greatest difference from last year is that many exhibitors are preparing pour-over coffee on site, something that was less common before. If a particular brand interests you, you may even meet its founder and have coffee brewed by them—an exceptional experience for a coffee lover.

There are also considerably more dessert booths this year, allowing visitors to pair coffee with something sweet. Last year there were only one or two dessert stands, so many people had to leave to buy food and then return. This year, everything is available on site.

However, there seem to be fewer booths devoted to professional equipment such as espresso machines. The emphasis is more on tasting coffee. Brands including Fellow, Hario and 2waycup are displaying equipment, but overall the exhibition leans towards beans and pour-over experiences.

Conclusion

Given the choice, I prefer this year's exhibition. Coffee equipment can be found elsewhere in Hong Kong, but it is rare to see so many distinctive and scarce coffees gathered in one place. If you love coffee, Coffee Agenda 2024 is not to be missed. Bring your coffee cup and enjoy a coffee celebration full of surprises.
