[1 Month Use Experience] Detailed review and unboxing sharing of Timemore Chestnut C3S Pro Bean Grinder!

Recently, different manufacturers have sent me new releases and other kinds of coffee accessories to try. I appreciate the support from these manufacturers and brands. It has given me an opportunity to explore several categories of coffee products, and the newly released Timemore C3S Pro in particular brought back memories of when I first began exploring pour-over coffee.

Note: This article is not an advertisement. If you are looking for a technical analysis, flavour assessment or detailed comparison with other products, those topics are outside the scope of this article. I am focusing on the user experience. I am not a professional reviewer, only a user sharing impressions after approximately one month, in the hope of exchanging ideas with other coffee enthusiasts.

The Timemore C3S Pro reminded me of how I felt when I first began making pour-over coffee.

When I started exploring different pour-over methods, I often browsed coffee equipment and accessories. Apart from a kettle, the grinder may be the most important piece of equipment. It took many YouTube videos and Google searches for me to understand its importance, and my budget at the time was limited. I did not expect the interest to grow this far; what looked like a few one-off appliance purchases became a much deeper hobby.

For me, beyond the basic ability to grind coffee, the most important qualities in a manual grinder are durability, a neat and solid finish, the effort and time required to grind, and whether useful accessories such as a cleaning brush are included.

Questions such as near-zero retention, flavour preference, burr size, particle uniformity, burr coating and burr geometry become more relevant when pursuing finer distinctions later in the journey.

Detailed Timemore C3S Pro User Experience

After using the Timemore C3S Pro for about a month, I think it is worth considering for someone entering pour-over coffee, taking a grinder to work, or upgrading from a basic model such as a vintage-style Kalita grinder or an early ceramic-burr grinder.

Many people will first ask about pour-over grinding. In my experience, this grinder produces a relatively noticeable amount of fines. If its price is below one thousand dollars, that result would be acceptable to me, although I did not know its approximate selling price at the time of writing. The packaging also illustrates the expected grind result. After one month of use, I found that choosing a slightly coarser pour-over setting can reduce most issues caused by accumulated fines.

In overall use, the grinder works quickly, although it sometimes requires additional force because the burr diameter is relatively small. The square textured pattern on the body provides noticeable friction and grip when your hands are sweaty, without feeling uncomfortable. I have used grinders that rotate in the hand under the same conditions at low, mid-range and high prices, so this texture can be particularly useful for users with sweaty hands.

The grinding noise is similar to that of an ordinary manual grinder and did not feel excessively loud for office use. Because grinding is quick, I can usually finish within 1 minute. It can therefore work for a quiet morning pour-over at the office. The folding handle also reduces storage pressure and the risk of the handle pulling the grinder off a surface, as the centre of gravity stays closer to the body. It can sit neatly in an office without attracting much attention.

The included accessories are a storage pouch and, importantly, a cleaning brush, so there is no need to buy a separate brush for removing residual coffee grounds.

Those are the aspects that stood out most during use. If highly distinctive flavour and very uniform grinding are the priorities, machines below one thousand dollars can be difficult to compare with models costing several thousand or even tens of thousands. In my experience, the difference in price is often reflected in the result.

Positioning of the Timemore Chestnut C3S Pro Grinder

I see this grinder as a model for beginners or for carrying while travelling or commuting. It handles the basic functions, although its metal body makes it somewhat heavy. This is my personal experience; questions and additional observations are welcome. At the time of writing, I planned to add more detailed information to the website within the following two weeks.

Conclusion – Timemore Chestnut C3S Pro Grinder

After using the Timemore C3S Pro for a month, I consider it a practical choice for someone beginning coffee brewing, looking to progress from a basic grinder, or wanting a model for the office. It produces more fines, but a moderate adjustment to a coarser setting can reduce the issue. Grinding is fast, although additional force is sometimes needed. The textured design improves grip for sweaty hands and makes use more stable. It is not excessively loud, and the folding handle makes office storage easier. A pouch and cleaning brush are also included.

However, a budget below one thousand dollars may not deliver the uniformity expected from a higher-end grinder. This model is intended for beginners or office use. Its main limitation for frequent carrying is the extra weight of its predominantly metal construction.

  1. Who It Suits: The Timemore C3S Pro is intended for people beginning pour-over coffee or upgrading from a basic grinder such as a vintage-style Kalita model or a ceramic-burr grinder.

  2. Grinding Result: This grinder produces more fines, but choosing a coarser pour-over setting can reduce most clogging caused by accumulated fine particles.

  3. Speed and Effort: Grinding is fast, although the smaller burr diameter means additional force may sometimes be required.

  4. Design Feature: For users with sweaty hands, the square textured pattern provides a secure grip.

  5. Noise and Speed: Grinding noise is moderate and the grinding speed is fast, making it suitable for office use.

  6. Storage and Portability: The folding handle and centre of gravity close to the body make the grinder easier to store and carry.

  7. Accessories: Includes a storage pouch and dedicated cleaning brush.

  8. Price and Quality: At a price below one thousand dollars, exceptionally uniform grinding and highly distinctive flavour may be difficult to achieve.

  9. Positioning: Suitable for beginners who want to progress gradually, or users who need to carry a grinder while travelling or commuting.
