Wave filter and flat coffee bed

The waved sides of a Wave 185 filter reduce the area pressed directly against the dripper wall, while the flat base helps the coffee form an even bed. The three drainage holes of the WDS-185K allow recipes to be adjusted through grind size, pouring rate and coffee-to-water ratio.

Brew 2–4 servings at a time

The 185 size provides more filter and coffee-bed space than the 155 size. It suits shared brews, larger total water volumes, or recipes where a larger dose should not be crowded into a small dripper. Adjust the actual dose and total water to the coffee, roast level, grind and personal preference.

Home and outdoor setups

A stainless-steel dripper is less likely to shatter from impact than glass or ceramic, making it suitable for a daily brewing area or an outdoor coffee kit. Before use, confirm that it sits securely on the server, cup or other receiving vessel.

How to use

1. Place the WDS-185K securely on a coffee server or suitably sized cup.
2. Insert a Kalita Wave Filter 185. If you pre-rinse the paper, discard the rinse water from the receiving vessel first.
3. Add ground coffee and gently level the bed without vigorous shaking or compression.
4. Bloom and pour in stages according to your recipe, keeping the dripper and receiving vessel stable.
5. After drawdown, remove the dripper. Let it cool before discarding the paper and coffee grounds.
6. Dry completely after cleaning before storage.

Which filter do I need to buy separately?

Use Kalita Wave Filter 185. The 155 and 185 are different sizes, so check the package label before purchase.

Can I brew directly over a coffee cup?

Yes, if the rim supports the dripper securely and the cup has enough capacity. Before pouring, test the contact points and stability with the empty dripper.

Must I brew four cups?

No. The 2–4 serving label is a reference size for the dripper and filter. Adjust the dose, water and serving volume to your recipe.

Does stainless steel always change the coffee flavour?

Cup results also depend on the coffee, grind, coffee-to-water ratio, water temperature, pouring and total brew time. Material is not the only factor, and this page does not guarantee a fixed flavour result.
