The SSW Kettle 1000 has a full capacity of approx. 1,000mL, with a ribbed stainless steel body and a long, slender spout for preparing more hot water for pour-over coffee at once. If your routine includes preheating the dripper and server before pouring in stages, calculate the fill level around that full routine and leave room for moving and pouring.

The body and lid use 18-8 stainless steel, while the base uses 18-chromium material with a contact-base diameter of 122mm. This base material and diameter differ from those of the SS Kettle 700. Kalita explicitly lists the SSW 1000 as suitable for 100V IH, so check both your capacity requirements and the hob conditions when choosing.

The long, slender spout works with the tilt of the body to pour, while the ribbed body gives it a distinct metal profile. Start with a fill level suited to your recipe to get familiar with the grip, then practise starting, dividing and ending your pours. Keeping the fill level consistent makes it easier to compare your pouring rhythm.

Use and cleaning

Kalita only lists this model for 100V IH. The 220V hobs commonly used in Hong Kong are outside that stated scope, so check the hob voltage and supplied instructions before use. The handle and metal components may heat up after heating or adding hot water; check that you can hold it safely before moving it. If the instructions allow heating over an open flame, be aware that the handle will become hot. Avoid high heat, which can overheat the base of the spout and cause hot water to splatter. Fill to seven to eight tenths of capacity to avoid overflowing.

Once the body has cooled, wash with a soft sponge and neutral dishwashing detergent, rinse and dry thoroughly. Drain water from both the ribbed body and the spout before storing.
