Kalita Coffee Master Pelican 1L is an enamel pour-over kettle made in Japan. Its broad, distinctive Pelican spout lets you adjust between thicker and thinner streams by tilting the body. It suits practising blooming, gentle pours and larger staged pours with the same kettle.

The stream changes with your hand movement. Start with a slight tilt and gradually adjust the angle to see how the flow from the spout changes. This model is chosen for a spout that allows both thicker and thinner streams, giving you more than a single pouring rhythm.

Enamel combines a metal body with a glassy glaze, giving it rich colour and shine. Black, grey, blue, green and yellow share the same functions and specifications. With a full water capacity of 1L, choose the colour that suits your coffee corner and leave room for boiling when heating.

Intended use

For everyday pour-over coffee and practising transitions between thicker and thinner streams. 1L is the full water capacity. When heating, fill to only around seven to eight tenths to leave space for boiling.

Use and cleaning

Heating and pouring

1. Fill the kettle to around seven to eight tenths, leaving space for boiling.
2. Heat on a gas hob, avoiding high heat. If the kettle is unstable on the pan support, use it on a wire mesh.
3. After heating, hold the handle with an oven glove or thick cloth and pour slowly at the flow your recipe needs.
4. After use, let the kettle cool naturally before cleaning and storing.

Heating over a flame makes the handle hot. High heat can also overheat the base of the spout and cause hot water to splash. Pelican 1L is not compatible with IH induction hobs.

Pouring practice

Practise first with a fixed water amount and pouring height. Begin with a slight tilt, then gradually increase the angle and observe the stream changing from thin to thick. For staged pours, practise stopping and restarting the flow to become familiar with the spout response.

Cleaning and storage

Let the kettle cool naturally, wash with a soft sponge and neutral dishwashing detergent, rinse and dry thoroughly before storing. Enamel is a glassy glaze fired onto metal. Avoid impacts and scratches from abrasive tools when placing, cleaning or storing the kettle.
